This trip is open to photographers at all experience levels. Join FSM photographers Ron and Debbie Thomas for a once in a lifetime travel adventure to the Swiss Alps and the fashion capital of the world Milan, Italy. We will spend our days photographing landscapes, cityscapes, nightscapes, sunsets, sunrises, waterfalls, and alpine mountains. Our base of operations will be Kandersteg, Switzerland.

Day 1: Wed., September 7th

Depart From Your Home City
All participants are responsible for making their own travel arrangements to arrive in Zurich at the designated time.

If traveling from USA cities, participants must make their flight arrangements to depart the USA no later than August 10th for an overnight flight to Zurich International Airport (ZUR) by the morning of August 11th before 09:00AM local Zurich time. Most flights from USA major cities arrive in Zurich between 7:30AM and 8:30AM local time.



Day 2: Thu., September 8th

Arrive Zurich International Airport
Arrive Zurich Intl. Airport (ZUR) to meet the group in luggage area for international arrivals.  We will take a short walk to our private coach to take a relaxing 3 hour ride to our home base for the next the next 10 days in Kandersteg. Bus departs for Kandersteg at 10:00 hrs local time. After settling in at our headquarters hotel, we will eat lunch in the Village of Kandersteg and have orientation.



Day 3: Fri., September 9th

After breakfast, we will pack our photo bags & tripods for a short bus ride to Lake Oeschinensee where we will take photographs of one of the most popular Alpine lakes in the Kandersteg/Kander Valley.  We will each lunch at a lakeside restaurant.




Day 4: Sat., Septmeber 10th

Eiger + Jungfrajoch
Our coach will pick us up from our hotel and take us to the base of the Jungfraujoch. We will then take a train ride like none before, passing through mountain tunnels, changing at train stations in the middle of the mountains and reaching an altitude of 3,454 metres. Once you reach the top, the views will take your breath away. We will then  return via train back down to Grindelwald. At the station, we will meet our private coach for our return trip back to Kandersteg.



Day 5: Sun., September 11th

Milan, Italy

Departing Kandersteg in the morning, we will travel by train to Milan, the fashion capital of the world.  We will use local transportation to travel to Duomo Milan, Galleria Milano, and the famous Castello Sforezesco (Milan Castle). We will eat lunch in the Galleria area.  Plenty of opportunities for documentary, architecture, and street photography. After spending a day photographing, we return to Kandersteg via train.

Day 6: Mon., September 12th

Free Day - Show N' Tell
This is our mid-week break to catch our breadth and review our pictures for a Monday night Show N' Tell session. You will spend a relaxing day reviewing your photos and/or taking an optional White Water Rafting trip on the Simme river.




Day 7: Tue., September 13th

Interlaken • Thun

We catch a city bus to the to the railway station to board a train for an all day excursion in Interlaken and Thun. Interlaken and Thun is a photographer’s smorgasboard of landscape, street, documentary, cityscape, and waterfall photography.  Traveling by water boat, we will traverse the lake cities of Interlaken and Thun. We will eat lunch and dinner in Interlaken returning after sunset via train back to Kandersteg.

Day 8: Wed., September 14th

Today we travel to Bern, the capital of Switzerland for a combination street, documentary, architecture, and fashion shoot.  The plan is to meet our models upon arrival at the railway station and then breakup into 3 to 4 small groups with each group having a model.  The goal is photograph the models using natural light and posing techniques with old town Bern as the background near and around the clock tower and fountains of Bern city.

Day 9: Thu., September 15th

We will travel to Blausee for an HDR photography workshop and photo shoot.  Instructors will provide tips on capturing high dynamic range photos using filters.  We will eat lunch at Blausee. Blausee is a small lake, in Switzerland, in the Kander valley above Kandergrund at 887 metres, near the river Kander. Later that evening, we head to Hotel des Alps for our mid-trip celebratory meal and show & tell.




Day 10/11: September 16th - 17th

Mulenen • Niesen (Friday/Saturday)

After breakfast, we will spend a relaxing day checking gear, processing photos, and packing for our overnight stay at the Niesen Mountain Lodge for sunset, nightscape, celestial, and sunrise photography. Niesen is a mountain peak of the Bernese Alps in the Canton of Bern, Switzerland. The summit of the mountain is nearly 2,400 meters in elevation. We leave Niesen after breakfast the next morning on Day 10.



Day 12: Sunday, September 18th

Homebound: Zurich International Airport

Departing our hotel early at 06:00 hrs local time, we travel to Zurich’s international airport that. Participants should allow a 3-hour window to get checked in, pass through customs, and pass through two security checkpoints before getting to your gate of departure.  We recommend you set your departure times after 11:00 hours local Zurich time.
